A Pandemic Project

In the late fall of 2020…

I was looking for an outlet to keep me busy after retirement, being mostly housebound at the height of the pandemic.

Scrolling through Instagram one day, I came upon the account of a young Mom/Artist who made beautiful macrame/woven tapestries and offered online classes. I signed up and took to it immediately.

During a blog post, she mentioned acquiring a floor loom at an estate sale and I thought to myself, “Why couldn’t I check into something similar in my area?”

I checked some local buy and sell sites up here in Manitoba, Canada, where I live, and stumbled upon a used floor loom for sale. Knowing absolutely nothing about weaving on a scale this size, I took the plunge and bought it. My husband accompanied me, no hesitation whatsoever, on the 200 km journey to load it up and bring it home.

That was the starting point of weaving and my passion for creating fabric.

I have always had a burning desire to challenge myself, constantly seeking new opportunities to push my limits and discover the incredible things that I am capable of. Discovering weaving with its unending possibilities for learning something new, has been life-changing for me. Although I am an active member of Jane Stafford’s Online Guild, and was proudly asked to become a part of Jane’s ‘Dream Team’ for 2024, I eagerly search for extra classes available online to stretch my knowledge.
